Venus relief map was prepared in the Sternberg State Astronomical Institute with the participation of the chair of Cartography and Geoinformatics of the Moscow State University on the base of Magellan altimetry data. The contours were constructed using the heights of 6 146 156 object points. The heights on Venus are referenced to a sphere of radius 6051,8 km. Crater Ariadne (43,9°N, 0°E) defines the Prime Meridian of Venus. Central longitude of the Nearside is 320°E. This hemisphere every 584 days looks the Earth at Venus lower conjunction with the Sun, i.e. when the planet is on a line directly between the Earth and the Sun.
