Mars 1969

Cartographers: JL Inge, CF Capen, LJ Martin, BQ Faure

These Mercator projection maps, prepared by the staff of the Planetary Research Center of Lowell Observatory, represent the surface features visible on Earth-based International Planetary Patrol photographs obtained near opposition between 19 May 1969 and 5 July 1969, corresponding with Martian September. Positional control was achieved directly from the photographs by projecting them optically onto orthographic graticules. IAU nomenclature (de Mottoni 1957) has been supplemented by other traditional names in current use. Latitudes and longitudes are labelled according to the convention adopted by the IAU in 1970.
