Martian grid map based on canal maps, interpreted as a global tectonic system R. A. Wells, An Introduction to the Martian Grid System, Geophysical Journal International, Volume 17, Issue 2, March 1969, Pages 209–224, https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1365-246X.1969.tb02322.x
Martian topographic contours from the author’s observing session 8–15 June 1969. Height data at the points shown are given by large bold-face numbers (in km), contour values are shown by small boldface numbers. Contour intervals are 2 km except where crowding would result. Areas marked H, the highest regions, are locations where the altitude exceeded the scale height. The zero level is that used by BELTON and HUNTEN (1969) (see WELLS, 1969c). The cross-hatched spatial resolution element is shown. Seeing, temperature and differential refraction effects were neglected in this preliminary version. The base map is that produced by the U.S. Air Force ACIC for NASA. (From WELLS, 1969c.)
